Bảo Thy was born in Ho Chi Minh City. She studied vocals and piano at the private Suối Nhạc music school from her lower-secondary years and attended Marie Curie High School.

She first drew attention in 2006 through the vote for the face of the game Võ Lâm Truyền Kỳ and the Miss Audition contest. In 2008 she released her debut album Có bao giờ... em sai? and recorded "Ngôi nhà hoa hồng" with Quang Vinh, followed by the albums Ký ức của mưa (2010) and Special Album (2011).

Alongside music, she appeared in the films Công chúa teen và ngũ hổ tướng, Gia sư nữ quái (2012) and Dân chơi không sợ con rơi (2022). In 2017, Bảo Thy won season 3 of Hòa âm Ánh sáng.
