Ngọc Giàu

Ngọc Giàu was born in 1945 in Thủ Thiêm and began singing as a child, performing in turn with the Mai Lan Phương – Ngọc Chiểu and Ngọc Kiều troupes. In 1958 she played the female lead in the play Hai cánh én đầu xuân, then joined the Thanh Minh – Thanh Nga troupe and won the Thanh Tâm Award Gold Medal in 1960.

She is known for many signature roles such as Điêu Thuyền (Phụng Nghi Đình), Thị Lộ (Rạng ngọc Côn Sơn), Hoạn Thư (Truyện Kiều) and Cô Bảy Cán Vá (Đời cô Lựu), with a wide range from tragic and coquettish roles to male-impersonation and child roles. She is also a model artist and teacher at the Trần Hữu Trang Cải Lương Theatre, and has worked in spoken drama and comedy.

In her 70s she remains active in film, appearing in features such as Năm sau con lại về, Tấm Cám: Chuyện chưa kể, Bố già (2021), Nhà bà Nữ (2023) and Mai (2024).

Babyface Entertainment, a Vietnam casting agency since 2009, helps brands, agencies and production houses book Ngọc Giàu for commercials, TVCs, key-visual shoots, events and KOL campaigns, working through the artist’s management to confirm availability and fees.

Ngọc Giàu established her talent early with the Thanh Tâm Award Gold Medal in 1960 and returned to the award's honour roll in 1967. She received her first Mai Vàng (Golden Apricot) Award in 1995 in the comic actor category and was awarded the title of People's Artist by the State in 2012.
