Career story

Thanh Lam was born in Hanoi, the daughter of composer Thuận Yến and NSƯT (Meritorious Artist) Thanh Hương, a đàn tranh (zither) player; as a child she learned singing from her father and the instrument from her mother. In 1978 she entered the Hanoi Conservatory to study the tỳ bà (pipa), switched to vocal studies in 1985 and began singing professionally with the Central Light Music Song and Dance Troupe.

She won an award at a political song festival in Berlin in 1986 with “Mặt trời và ánh lửa”, then took the top prize at the first National Professional Solo Singing Competition in 1991. In 1997, the liveshow Cho em một ngày was staged in three cities and is regarded as the first solo concert tour in Vietnamese pop music; a year later, she received the ASEAN Golden Voice award.

The album Ru mãi ngàn năm won Album of the Year at the 2004 Cống hiến (Dedication) Awards; Thanh Lam was awarded the title of NSƯT in 2007 and NSND in 2023.

Babyface Entertainment, a Vietnam casting agency since 2009, helps brands, agencies and production houses book Thanh Lam for commercials, TVCs, key-visual shoots, events and KOL campaigns, working through the artist’s management to confirm availability and fees.
